January 2020 will bring some major changes to the Medicare supplement world. The plan facing the biggest impact is Medigap Plan F.

What happens to Plan F in 2020?
When the federal law MACRA goes into effect on January 1, 2020, newly-eligible Medicare beneficiaries will no longer be able to enroll in Medigap Plan F. A "newly-eligible Medicare beneficiary" is someone who turns 65 (or otherwise became eligible for Medicare) on or after January 1, 2020.
What if I already have Plan F?
The MACRA changes will not impact people who already have Plan F. They will be able to keep their Plan F and all of its benefits. A likely side effect of MACRA, however, is a consistent increase in Plan F premiums. Switching from Plan F to Plan G, while you are still healthy, could lead to significant annual savings.
